ALL DRIVERS are required to carry PROOF OF INSURANCE (INSURANCE ID CARDS). Failure to provide a VALID (Current Policy Period) ID Card will result in a $50 fine.

“Beginning on October 1, 2016, all drivers in Maryland are required to carry valid proof of insurance, and present it during traffic stops, at the request of a law enforcement officer. During an initial introduction period, warnings will be issued to drivers who are unable to present valid proof of insurance. Beginning on July 1, 2017, drivers will be fined $50 for failure to provide valid proof of insurance.”

Additionally Baltimore City will begin rolling out the new Automated Traffic Violation Enforcement System (ATVES) begining 6/26 at select locations. No fines will be issued within the first 30 days that the cameras become operational. You will however still receive a warning notice in the mail.
